Soldier in the Rain
I see a soldier standing in the rain,
His head is bowed, you can't see his face
There's a white stone in front of him
He falls to his knees, This was his best friend
the only one
Tears roll down but you can't see,
His shoulders shake
Your heart breaks
He remembers the day,
Smells sulfur, dust and smoke,
They can't see through the sand storm
but he knows he's got his friends back,
They'll come out alright in the end.
But this time they don't,
only one walks out of the firestorm,
the other is carried out under a flag.
Then he's home again, he can't handle it and he leaves.
Goes to the one place he knows he can,
goes to his best friend.
But it's raining
as he falls to his knees
tears roll down his face,
and he remembers how things used to be.
