Little Box of Back-ups

Perfect lip gloss.
Bright sunshine hair.
Size zero jeans.
High Heels.

She’s absolutely fascinating in the way she moves from boy to boy-quickly and happily.
Quickly…
Happily…
Or at least, she appears so.
I would be torn apart if I experienced half the heartbreak that her pale eyes have seen.

I suspect that she has a box of cards
Which holds an endless assortment of back-up boyfriends.
Once she has mourned the loss of her last,
For the appropriately brief period of time,
She moves on.
On to the back-up.

He’s always sweet and seemingly charming,
But I never see what she sees.

Is it real love and happiness that she is pursues?
Or is she just terrified that she’ll be alone?
Forever.

Does she just want another bragging right?
Another session of gossip fueled by the mistakes of Back-Up #2?
I have no idea-but I have never seen her truly in love.

And yet, she keeps up the pursuit-searching for something she has never known.

I always thought she was happier than I-until I found out what love truly is.
It is not bragging rights.
It is not a box of boys you command at will.

It is not something planned a as she believes.

It is something unexplainably unexpected.
It is something wonderfully awkward and imperfect.

I wish her luck on her journey
With that little box of back-ups,
In search of love.
