After the Lower Trail
we went into the forest,
and hiked for hours
on the one that was clearly the best.

We started off
by reading the sign,
“dangerous animals,
stay on the trail and you’ll be fine”

So we walked,
and walked,
then walked some more
before my mom said,
“I saw something, I’m sure.”

So we stopped and listened
as she described the animal,
“It was big, and brown
and it was five feet tall!”

after a while, we started up again,
then noticed tracks
that stopped, then began.

Hmm,
could this be what she saw?
Did this animal avoid us,
even with his dangerous claws?

Yes, we thought,
she must’ve seen this as it crossed!
We soon realized that it was a tapir,
a hippo-like animal,
that’s what scared her!

then we arrived
at the sparkling fall,
but it was closed,
even though we saw nothing in it at all.

So we trudged back
on a much shorter hike,
where we saw monkeys and spiders,
but nothing that bites.

finally, we showed up at our hotel,
exhausted, tired,
but went into the pool,
before leaving the place
that was so cool.
