Favorite Quote:
"We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." -Oscar Wilde

A vacuum of silence
All sounds are immediately stifled
Words are crushed by a wall of quiet
As soon as I open my mouth
The silence of the library claps its hand over my lips
Laughter is muffled
By the presence of thousands of printed words
And the glare of the frowning librarian
Austere and severe
She sits rigidly at her desk
Watching with hawk eyes
Alert for any utterance
That would shatter the immutable silence
Of the library.

I was inspired to write this poem when I visited my school library and never wanted to go again, so intimidating was the absolute silence, not to mention the glaring librarian.
