The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom. -Isaac Asimov

She presses her face to the glass
Waiting
To see his face
The face of an angel
Lips curled
Into a dazzling smile
Eyes twinkling
Like tiny stars

She leans into the window
Willing
Their hearts
To beat in rhythm
Together
Like two parts of a song

She stretches out her fingers
Wanting
To see them
Interlaced
With his
But alas
She cannot
For the glass divides them

The glass
It takes the form
Of
The Other Woman
She
Who has stolen his heart
And will not
Give it back

He draws back from the glass
His smile
Slowly fading
His whole being
Escaping
His eyes
Are all that remain

Those eyes
They are all she has
All
She will ever have
They haunt her every thought

She hears him call her name
His voice
Is an instrument
Of heaven
But
It is only a dream
An impossible wish
That will
Never
Come true
For
In reality
He will
Never be hers

His heart beats
With that of
The Other Woman

But hers
It has sung
Its final chord
It rings
Against the glass
A chord
Of chains
Of tears
And unrequited love
