Look At Me

Look at me
Take a look
A good long look

Look at me
The girl with the four color pants and the silver docs,
Spike earrings hanging from my ears
Looking like a tough Williamsburg hipster
Which isn't that far off

Do you see ME?
Do you see the delicate soul?
The dainty little girl behind the punk façade?
Can you peer into me?
See the pain I've been through;
The weary eyes that I try to make look "happy"?

Why do I do it?
Hide my innermost, deepest feelings
While blabbering on about hearsay
And other nonsense
Why do I sometimes fear that my best friend would judge
The things I don't tell her?

Human nature is it?
Wanting to seem flawless
Wanting to be...
The smartest,
The skinniest,
The prettiest,
Wanting to perfectly fit society's image of "perfect"

So take a look at me,
Take a nice long look
My façade decieves many
Did it fool you?

Thanks so much, I was just trying to write about how people often put up these fake facades to cover up their deepest fears, secrets and whatnot. Glad you enjoyed it!
