Stains On My Skin
bones,
taut skin,
sharp features,
all my freedom.
one moment,
the longest time
that I
can be perfect.
one tear-wrenching,short-lived,
insufficient moment
before it all melts away.
a square of metal
beneath my feet,
my best friend
my worst enemy.
so much work
so little reward.
prayers
confessions
lies
all one,
in that twisted world.
why won't it leave?
discipline
poise
flawlessness
unattainable goals.
as the walls breaks,
tears are shed
and race down my cheeks
unbidden, irrepressible,
and they are stains on my skin.
