The Sadness of a Dirty Snowman
Is not in its Smudged, Lopsided, Body
Or in the Memory of Faded Winter Cheer;
It is not in the Nearby Street-
Empty of Children
(Who are now trapped in Sweaty Classrooms)-
Or in the Mud and Slush that takes Their Place;
The Sadness of a Dirty Snowman
Is in the Dead Brown Lawn
That it Rules Over.
