"She always had that about her, that look of otherness, of eyes that see things much too far, and of thoughts that wander off the edge of the world."

Joanne Harris

THE CAT CAME IN
Delicately bouncing on all four paws;
Tail twitching to and fro
Like a snake about to attack
THE CAT CAME IN
Fog rolling about his heels
As he stood in the doorway
Waiting for someone to acknowledge him
THE CAT CAME IN
A bluebird locked in the embrace of his jaw,
Life flying away
From the bird who could soar no more
THE CAT CAME IN
Dropping his prey to the ground
Where it hit with a small thud
Back to the cat who was smiling like a Cheshire
THE CAT CAME IN
With the cold blast of air
And like every morning
The cat came in
