Gray –
Gray is for Bob.
In January 2011,
Bob was diagnosed with brain cancer.
While on vacation,
he bit into an apple and his arm went numb.
He was urged to fly back to the States immediately,
only to receive bad news.
The husband of a dedicated wife,
and the wild father of three striking children,
Bob is a symbol of embracing life to all.
After several brain surgeries in attempt to remove the tumor,
after several months of his family living in constant fear of losing him,
after a long, courageous battle fought against the nasty disease,
Bob entered Heaven.

Blue –
Blue is for Dora.
Five years ago,
Dora was diagnosed with colon cancer.
A former foreign exchange student from Mexico,
she fell in love with a Walleser
and forever called Iowa her new home.
The wife of a loving husband,
and the beautiful mother of three very young, bright children,
Dora is an inspiration to all.
After several series of chemotherapy treatments,
after several years of her family living in constant fear of losing her,
after a long, courageous battle fought against the nasty disease,
Dora entered Heaven.

Green –
Green is for Ben.
In April 2011,
Ben was diagnosed with liver cancer.
After a few months of severe stomach pains which he tried to ignore,
the doctors found a tumor inside his body.
Throughout his entire fight,
Ben relied on God and considered his condition
to be a “win-win situation.”
No matter what happened –
if he stayed living on earth with his family
or entered the gates of Heaven to meet his God,
Ben would be happy and right where he belonged.
The husband of a strong wife,
and the ever-present father of three adoring children,
Ben is a role model to all.
After several treatment attempts and “praise and worship” events to make the process easier
after several years of his family living in constant fear of losing his,
after a long, courageous battle fought against the nasty disease,
Ben entered Heaven.
November 17, 2012.

Too many lives lost,
too many families affected,
too many dreams crushed
by this treacherous disease.
An end must be found,
a treatment must be sought –
and I want to dedicate my life to seek the cure.

The author's comments:
I wrote this poem in dedication to my two uncles and one aunt who passed away in 2012 due to cancer. Their lives will forever be remembered.
