To Ashes

I watch the orange flames
Swallow what was once my dream
The smoke rises higher
As the wisps of my fantasies drift away

All I had. I had to burn.
Everything reminded me of you
And what you did.
I had to get rid of it to finally be free.

Old dreams
Turn to nightmares

I imagine the flames consuming them
All of the memories and moments I am chained to
I want to be free to live again
Not shackled to my heartbreak and anguish.

The skies are grey
As thick black smoke rises to the clouds
The fire roars
As I wait anxiously for my release

Illusory shackles
Weigh heavier than iron

Nothing happens. I watch the flames die down
A pile of dark grey ashes is all that remains
I feel it growing stronger
The hold you have on me

The darkness closes in
The smoke seems to smile darkly
The ashes whisper
And I feel the heartache set in once more

“No freedom.
Bound to your misery forever…”
