Valentine Wish
We hear the steady tick
 But time’s not going anywhere
 We have until the rise
 Before giving into fear

You carried me to the rooftop
 Our secret hideaway
The only place in the world
I forever I want to stay

Barely able to keep my eyes open
I muster the strength to try
Weak from all the chemo though
I only feel the tears you cry

As I lie there in your lap
 We wait for the sun
 Like we did as children
But you’ll soon be the only one

Your eyes gleamed when it crept into view
Both of us taking in the sight
Before I close my eyes and surrender
 To the never-ending fight

By the time the sun sits on the horizon
You know my pain has gone away
After kissing me on the forehead
“Thanks for the greatest Valentine’s Day”
