"Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book."

I wanted you to trace the curves of my cheekbones with your rose petal fingertips. You could have filled the hollow of my back if you chose to.

I traced the lines between staying and leaving. I nestled in between your rib cage and memorized the steady beat of your lifeline.

My leniency towards charred lungs and raspy breathing has set me apart from you yet again.

The lines always say to leave but the crease of your lips is begging me to stay, so I kissed them softly one last time and cried.

You awoke shortly after to tear stained bed sheets and a note that simply stated I deserve to be much more than a mere distraction.

I'm not sure the stars will ever align for us.

It's not fair to love someone unconditionally while they use you to fill an empty space inside of them temporarily.
