Let go of the hand that beckons you towards the dark
Close your weary amber eyes; lay down your tired head
Unfurl the banner of the light; prepare for battle with the night
For darkness comes, on turbid wings it seeks to blot out the day
Guard yourself, for darkness sneaks around each and every way
Draw forth your smiling sword out from its sheath
Don’t let the darkness bear its terrible teeth
Destroy that monster and its scaly kin
Be secure in the fact that you will win
And when the battle has been won
You will tell yourself that escape springs not from the barrel of a gun
But rather, from the invigorating rays of a bright and brilliant sun

I wrote this for a friend who was feeling down. I hope this piece can help people rise up from their despair.
