B is for Boyfriend

B is for boyfriend
and I thought that’s what you were.
But A is for almost-boyfriend
and that’s what I preferred.
Yet, C is for couple
which is what I thought would be.
But J is for just friends
and that was news to me.
F is for friends
which is what I wanted first.
But J is for just friends
and somehow just is worse.

The author's comments:
My friend and I almost dated. But then a past romantic interest of his entered the picture and he said it was best if we were just friends. I wrote this after that incident. Maybe you've been in a similar situation, maybe not, but it's a horrible feeling.
