Bursting to the surface,
a songbird long in silence.
Rising from the waves,
whispering to windowless souls.

Where, oh where did it go?

What- they inquire,
eyes consumed by hidden desire.

Do you not recognize what is lacking,
what has been driven out?
You have forgotten,
abandoned the incandescence of hope,
the luster belonging to dreams,
aims to an end.

Where, oh where did it go?

Innocence of purpose,
absence of mind.
Defeated and depleted,
a vanquished sense of will.

Drowning in the depths of a whirlpool,
dancing to the tune that optimism so carefully sang- a lamentation of ambitions.

Where, oh where did it go?

What- the ask once more,
their impatience I deplore.

Destiny my dear fools,
destiny is dead.
With a shake of the head and a ruffle of feathers,
the sea parted and welcomed me back once more.

Evermore.
