She had such exhausted eyes, like they had seen a thousand lives
"My soul weighs two and a half tons," she would tell me
Her bangs grazed her eyelashes
The ones I would always compliment her on
But she said they were too black against her skin
I brushed her hair back once
She scraped it back down over her forehead
"I've never seen your entire face," I said
"And I like it that way," she replied
She told me she always knows what she's doing
I told her that's impossible
She said, "Not for me."
Maybe she was an old soul
Maybe that's why she could dance in an empty room
And hear the music in her head
"It's easy. I've heard so many songs."
She didn't have time to eat
And she preferred it when her thighs didn't touch
Sleep was her favourite thing
So she did it fourteen hours a day
As a reward to herself, after being awake for ten
"Life is so tedious," she sighed.
