Broken Hearted Valentine

Drip, drop, drip, drop.
Drip goes the rain as it splatters on the window.
Drop goes the rain as it lands on the ground.

Outside the hallowed halls of my school,
dark clouds are looming.
Hanging above like an ill omen,
For an act that I long to do
But never have the guts to.

I make my way through the school,
Ignoring the couples showing their love
Knowing that by paying heed,
I would only sow envy in my heart
For no matter what I say
or no matter what I do,
I know that I can never be with you.
No matter how I act
and no matter how I talk,
Your friendship is the most that I can hope.

Because really now,
Just look at you now look at me.
Now back at you, and back at me.
Sadly, anyone I can see
I can never have a chance with you.
You. With your perfect smile and infectious laugh
Then me. With my skinny frame and freckled face.
You. Sitting there with your friends,
like a blooming flower within a sea of green.
And me. The insignificant blade of grass, ignored and unwanted.
Nature just gave you so much ‘umph’.
Leaving me with a pitiful ‘meh’.

So with my eyes downcast
And my heart wrapped in thorns
I push through the double doors of my school.
Instantly feeling the rain soaking my skin.
I look up into the sky,
Silently cursing at the heavens.
Cursing them for giving me giving me a love
That can only end in barren hills, wilted leaves
And sharp poisonous thorns,
When love should end with sweet oranges, vivid flora
And beautiful everglades to warm my heart.

So here I sit on the soaked ground,
Ignoring the mud now sticking on my pants,
I watch the rain pouring on my face.
Hiding the tears that began to fall.
This was the day of love,
But my love shall bear not sweet fruit.
Why would it? When to you, I am nothing more but a face in the crowd.
Insignificant and small to you’re vibrant life.

I watch the dark clouds looming like an ill omen,
For an act that I long to do,
But never have the guts to.
I love you.
