When the sobs swept in over the phone,
Whispering
you passed away,
My elderly grandmother
jumped at my screaming.
I was sitting on Grandmothers
rose scented bed,
Enjoying the re-runs of,
“That 70’s Show”.
My eyes shifting from,
The television screen,
To the incoming text messages
on my phone.
As it turned out,
The big bright television,
Was ten times better
than my,
Now trembling life.
I could pause,
rewind,
stop,
and fast forward.
As for my life,
In this moment, I couldn’t.

I wish I could pause,
in this moment of awe
and rewind time.
But,
Unlike an old tape recorder,
there was no turning back.

If you were with me
as of now,
You would be,
Yelling,
Telling me to turn on 106th & Park,
Your favorite show.
Lying on the bed,
With your legs spread out,
And your hands resting
behind
your head.

After I learned
I had to accept,
The fact you were gone,
Everything,
Including my brown eyes,
Seemed
so much lighter.

Even though
you’re not here with me
Personally,
You’re still here in my heart.

For example,
I decided to watch 106th &Park.
Not even knowing
My sexy husband,
Chris Brown
Was standing on the red and black stage;
Singing,
“She want that lovey dovey,
That kiss kiss”.
I can picture your face,
Reflecting in the television,
smiling,
Because,
you love Chris Brown’s
upbeat songs,
Just as much as I do.

Your low-cut trimmed hair,
With your name carved in
On the left side
Of your peanut shaped head.

But those memories are gone,
Washed away,
Thrown down the river,
To never flow back again.
