Nostalgia
i miss those times
when day was spring
and night was autumn
a whisper of things to come
and a sigh to cherish what you have
the skidded scooter wheels
since i could not ride a bike
the greener than green grass
relishing the silk beneath my child toes
my hair whipping around
a tornado that was unwillingly combed out once the moon rose
the meaningless blather
before i began to harbor my words
the generous smile
before i learned to charge for a grin
the fantastical stories
before i was told its best to keep them in my head
the easy forgiveness
before i found some mistakes shouldn't be forgotten
when school was a place to learn
not a place to excel
when friends were extra imaginations
instead of a double-edged sword
i grew up
i captured the essence of me
and poured it in my soul
and locked it with a chain
my steps are soft
my words are few
my smiles meaningful
nonetheless
i miss those times
