Love is illegal

There is no such thing as legal love.
A kiss gets you 1 to 3 hours in ISS.
Hugs get you a talking to, holding hands gets you the look.
Kisses become known as making out,
Hugs become known as groping,
And holding hands? They’re still working on that.

No sitting next to each other, no touching,
No talking, Can’t be in same groups, can’t even be in the same classes,
And don’t even look at each other.
If PDA is illegal then tell us.
At class meetings, in handbooks, or put up signs!
We can’t fight the law, nor live with it if there is none.

Love’s so illegal it confuses me.
Is it wrong to love?
Is it wrong to show love?
Or is the person I love wrong for me?
Do they want me to cheat?
Or have us break up?
If we break up will everyone be happy?
To see me depressed and tormented with no understanding?
If love is so wrong then forever alone we shall be.

Love’s so illegal,
If we get talked to again, suspension for 3 days.
No detentions, no ISS, no calls home.
It’ll be our 2nd visit to the office,
Unless you include the time I went to ask about it last year.

Love’s so illegal,
I don’t even care.
Holding hands make me fight quietly in my mind.
Hugs comfort the anger; confusion, depression, & sadness I feel from this law.
The kisses make me remember how idiotic you are about love.
Loves so illegal in school, that everyone believes the school is going religious.
Love maybe illegal,
But true love is a code red.

The author's comments:
This poem was writing due to the school never telling us students that PDA is wrong, or how much is to much. Sure making out and groping is wrong, but last time I check my chest isn't on my sides.

There is a plethora of relatibility in this piece, as I'm sure many people can easily relate to it. The ending line is very impactful, and even somewhat true. The opening stanza is also excellent, with the overview of many different forms of affection. Nice job.

I liked the repetiton in the beginning when you mentioned hugging, kissing, and holding hands. It was interesting to hear the consequences and to see how other people precieve it.

Some say the world will end in fire. Others in ice.

I like how you relate love to a law. There are some very strong lines in here that make it so amazing. The ending really does a good job of pulling it all together.
