Culture is essential and fundamental for the survival of societies
That is what makes America great and unique, the acceptance of diversities

Culture is learned mainly through interactions
When society embraces it, there can be tremendous benefits

Cultural universals are customs and practices that occur across all societies
In appearance, body, hairstyle, sports, dance, game and other form of activities

Culture is a form of social institution; family, law and religion
It is more than practice of cooking and gift giving it is deeply rooted in tradition

Culture is language both verbal and non verbal
It can be viewed, and expressed both internal and external

Culture is the values and standards that people actually follow
It doesn’t change; it remains the same yesterday, today and tomorrow

Culture is old tale and wisdom of ancestors
To the young they are viewed as wise teachers and mentors

Culture is knowledge, language, value, customs, and material objects that are passed
From person to person and generation to generation ensuring that it will last

Culture is tradition

A majority of my family from the Caribbean island of Jamaica. I was reared on the idea that nothing is more important than religion, family, and education. In my culture is expected for children to receive high grades. My mother attended school in Jamaica. When you graduated high school you could take exams to test all the skills and material you learned in school coming up. If you passed one of the exams your name would be put in the local paper. If you did pass an exam the family would probably go around showing it off especially if you took multiple exams. My mom took ten different subjects exams and passed every single one with flying colors. My grandmother was so excited she went around town saying, “You see how smart my child is”. My mother furthered her education even more when she came to the Untied States as a young adult. She is currently taking online college courses. My mother passed her intelligence down to me. Now I not only work hard and do my best for her but for myself. My culture as taught me to be the best you can be and to work and love to your fullest potential.
