"Why say the sky's the limit when there are footsteps on the moon?"

My past is not
something
that I would like to live for,
for the future is the
same.
Right here and now is where it's at:
"YOLO"
Is that what they say?
Just because it may be true,
does not mean to take to
extremes.
But for my mother,
my father,
and the person across from me:
I wonder, what are your
dreams?
Mine every day is to
make it back
home,
and to not live or die
alone.
To love and cherish
what's special to me,
to be able to make it,
out on my
own.
I will have no regrets,
I won't live in
shame.
I would expect you all
to do the
same.

My class was writing Political/concern poetry in any style we'd like. This was my concern poem. I have personal motivations for this piece.
