“My candle burns at both ends. It will not last the night, but ah my foes and oh my friends, it gives a lovely light"-Roald Dahl

They try to bat her wings to fly
But they’re holding on too tight
Their claws have sunk, their minds are set
So how does she take flight?

Constraints of wool are tossed aside
In favor of those made of steel
Careful, she’s a dreamer, they say;
And her spirit we need to steal

The happiness is washed from her face
She’s thrust into black and white
She must conform, she must comply
But at least she put up a fight

A spectrum of color is lethal, they say
In a world of black and white, difference is a crime
She’s proud to be guilty, although she stays quiet
For now she must learn to mime.
