A diminutive whale,

A gold design,

A charging pony,

A single name
looped in flowering cursive,

As a child
I did not expect life
To be valued
On such terms.


The author's comments:
I attend a college where your social status is largely determined by whether or not you can afford to wear certain brands. This poem is a reflection of that pressure. If you are trying to figure out which brands I am referring to, here is a hint: think Southern and preppy.
