A Shadow
I see an old photograph
Sitting on a shelf
I’m smiling, laughing
Not a care in the world
And I look, transfixed
And I wonder, I wonder
Where did she go
That little girl
The one I used to be
Grinning on the beach
Her happiness clear
Even in this old faded four by six
Shining through time and space
To here and now
Where I sit, looking
At this snapshot of my former self
At thirteen I feel old and grey
Like a shadow of my former self
Looking back
On my short life
And I wonder, I wonder
Who was I,
Who am I,
And who will I be?
