what you don't say
Sometimes,
I catch words between your 'I will always' and 'your be there' and 'be here' and 'hold on' and 'talk to you later' and 'buy groceries' and 'bake lemon bars' and 'brush my teeth'
and you don’t see that I’ve caught them between lash and palm, that I’ve picked them up with eager hands and stuffed them among the rest of the 'nevers' and 'yeah rights'
and I guess I’ve begun to manufacture these words, stuffing mine among yours
rolling them around, turning them over on their sides.
but it’s fine, because come winter you’ll need the 'nevers' too.
