The pounding of waves
Thrashing, crashing
A pounding in my heart
Like the rhythm of the ocean

The touch of water
A ripple in my soul
Like a mothers touch
It sets me free

The salt of the sea
A breath of fresh air
A love so vast and mighty
I tingle with joy

The water rises,
Devouring my face
Another breath of air

I rise to the top
Grip the ocean with white knuckles
And breathe in

This is who I am
Part of the ocean
Nothing can contain me
I am a surfer

The author's comments:
I remember watching the movie Soul Surfer and was inspired by how the ocean had such an impact on her. I decided to transform that impact and turn it into a poem about that love.
