Within me the tides grew
Slowly advancing, more and more.
Dismay took over
Of the water, pressing lightly…
And I took one step back.

Insidiously neared,
The pure yellow coat
Lying and gullibly receiving
Bearing,
Absorbing,
What the tides might bring.
And I took one step back.

Feeling the icy ooze,
I would have to yield.
Seemed darker and darker,
Greater and greater.
And I took one step back.

Eternal rest
Washing on the shores’ array,
Verging on unworldly toes
And I hoped to turn around and walk away.
