The building had a dark aura
Didn't go with that hot summer day
Sitting on that dock dangling my toes into the crisp water below
Smiling gently at the minnows nibbling at my toes
The birds flew overhead
And grandpa's fishing pole sat unused on the boat that was docked
The grass here was all cut short, didn't match my grandpa
I did
My blue dress with the flowers
And my baby doll who wore a dress that was once white
We matched grandpa
Climbed onto the boat
Wondering
Why grandpa didn't go fishing today
Why grandpa was taking a nap in that strange place
Why grandpa was wearing a suit
Why everyone was there
My big cousin comes out,
Dressed all in black
I'm wearing blue flowers
Grandpa liked blue flowers
Puts an arm round' my waist and picks me up
Lifts me out of the boat
I like grandpa's boat
Me and grandpa we like the water
He takes off his shoes and we dangle our toes
I ask him my questions
And I see the tears in his eyes
And then I ask why he's gonna cry
He tells me grandpas gone away,
He's gone to sleep forever
He won't be coming back again
Not for fishing or whatever
He loved me oh so very much
I say i loved him too
Then I remember just how much grandpa would have loved to see me all dressed up for him in the color blue
