"'You love me. Real or not real?'"-Peeta in Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

It’s futile, so simple
But innocent life
Destroyed

Hands clutched tight
I’m not ready to let you go
One day of happiness

The last request can only be whispered,
All I can do is hold back the scream
Sing

I haven’t in years
For fear of the flooding memories
But this moment is different, and your gentle eyes convince

The forest, quiet
As the music flows out
So magical, with even the animals’ respect

The last beat,
Reflecting your purity
Music lulling you to eternal rest

The birds,
Repeating my melody,
The only peace in this nightmare

Something snaps
The youth you exuded
Dead to the world

Agony, agony
That is the only feeling
The world meaning nothing

I need to show they don’t own us,
That you were more than a player,
A girl who mattered

Wildflowers to show your innocence
But mostly to cover the wound in my heart
They’re bright, clever in their own way, mirrors of you

So vulnerable in sleep
I kiss your temple softly
Goodbye

Can anyone understand this poem? I guess it's about death and a lost friend.
