You know what’s annoying?
College essays.
No, just college.
Do this, do that
Write this, write that
Apply here, sign there
Click, swoosh
Your application has been sent
They’ll let you know you tomorrow if it’s yes or no.
Either way, the outcome will change your life forever.
That’s the thing I hate most.
You think you bring a cunning story
Full of unique charm and wit,
Like the time I wore a sombrero
Into the popular diner in town
After the band won a competition.
But really, it’s the same as thousands of others.
So be careful when you pick your essay topic.
Have a nice time trying to sum up 17 years in 500 words.
And when you finally have it right,
You send it off.
And wait.
Tick tock, tick tock
Let this essay decide your fate.
So choose your essay topic wisely.
Or you’ll be sitting in your room
Very late on a school night
Writing a poorly produced poem
About how much you hate this
College application process.

The author's comments:
This poem was inspired by how much I despise writing college essays, looking for scholarships, and freaking out about my future.

A funny and, although frustrated, light hearted poem. You had a clear voice and tone throughout the poem. Keep up the good work. I hope you'll check out my work too.
