There are, in nature, neither rewards nor punishments, there are consequences. ~Robert G. Ingersoll.

Everywhere I turn,
There she stands.
She laughs mercilessly;
Her eyes dancing around.
I beg her to leave me be;
To go and never return,
But she just laughs harder and says:

“You are my joy,
And I am your pain;
Your body is my temple.
I spend every waking moment
gnawing at your nerves;
Taking pleasure from your tears…”

Then she appears beside me and continues:

“Living your life...”

A spine chilling scream pierces the night.
I look around to see who and where the sound came from only to realize…it was my own.
I heard something laugh from deep within;
She was inside me.
And I cried my last tear as the overwhelming pain took her last bite of me.
As I savored my final breath,
I realized I was finally free;
That death was my final escape.
With that,
I spoke my last words:

“I have won,
I no longer belong to you;
As I die so will you.”

She screamed from within me:

“No!”
A smile came across my face;
A faint sound of laughter, that was mine, escaped my lips,
As I slowly—but happily—faced my death.

The piece is inspired by this dull constant aching mind frame that I was feeling.
