Water for Life or Strife

September 2, 2012
Flowing, Rushing, Rapid
Without it we would be vapid
Scorching, Burning, Dry
With it we won’t be fry

It was here before we came
Naturally prolific but pristinely tame
It was a precursor to our rise
Yet now it leads to our demise

Yes it is the water of life
Sustaining beauty when rife
Miraculously it’s not already gone
But it might be by next dawn

We need to save our water, fast
For a future better than our past

Now? We try to unlock this impasse

Water meters can stop our excuse
Of not knowing how much we use

Government limits can provide incentive
And using water can become expensive

Or we can defy the past and educate others
Keeping water in the hands of our brothers

Which key fits?
That’s only for time to tell
But time will tell
For “one who controls water controls everything.”
