The beauty of a solitary leaf
Drifting from a tree,
The flowing, swishing, swooping
Movements of its life becoming free.
Its independence finally here,
The merry song resounds loud and clear.

The excited brightly burning red,
But in an instant all is dead.
Existence fulfilled, the dream now met,
Now making its royal descent and yet…

It can only fantasize of how it used to be,
Perched at the crown of a majestic magical tree.
It cries out to the wind in tearless agony,
Desperate for one last chance,
To extend the duration of life’s delightful dance.

Wind reaches out its hand
As it snatches the leaf above the sand.
Soaring to extraordinary heights
Above the ground,
The leaf releases a new compelling sound.

Its wisdom resonates in the air,
Life lessons it’s fervent to share.
Exclaiming to be resolute;
Unyielding to a treacherous fate,
To write one’s destiny on one’s own slate.

Night’s appearance seems unreal,
However, the once lively leaf’s time has been sealed.
No grieving will be done,
For a new journey will arrive
With the morning’s sun.
