"In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king." -Desiderius Erasmus

I sometimes feel like the cigarettes I smoke;
Burning persistently from one side
While Fate speeds the process from the other,
Sucking me into her lungs
And expelling the useless smoke once I am spent,
Nothing more than a filter
To be crushed beneath Her heel,
My life rolling away
On a cool night breeze.

The inspiration for this piece came one night as I stood outside on the step, smoking my midnight cigarette. It had been a long day, and the length of it had me stressed. I found, in that moment, just how easily I could relate to the ignited paper and tobacco in my hand.
