Let Go
A father
laughing, swinging
his little girl
through the air, like the
roller coaster at the amusement
park
that makes you
scream.
The wind whistling
Bare feet dangling
through the open air.
She closes her eyes, until her heart must gasp for air.
Until that monster comes.
That rumbling of the engine.
That vicious growl.
mustard yellow
flashing headlights
to take her.
The invisible tug of war
that pulls her free from his fingers
To where she will meet others,
to color outside the lines,
to laugh and giggle and shriek,
without her father's watchful eyes
