Safe Land
We want to look up
up higher than we’ve ever been
 or seen before
 past the sky
 the stars and the moon
 beyond the shining rose twilight
 a place unknown
 where there is no shame
 we don’t have to worry
 about our parents or our
 problems
the world will seem to stop
 just for a second,
 a moment of held breath
 for us
 to explore the light air
to be alone with our thoughts
 and tears, and failures
to open our eyes, and see
a new life, where there is no past
 a blank tape
 and maybe, an outstretched hand
 to grab onto, and squeeze-
and be pulled up, through the impossible
 taking a minute for ourselves
 knowing, this time
 we won’t let go
