Autumn's Falling
The moonlight painted shadows under your eyes.
I absorbed you into my skin
And whispered to the pigment
“Keep this one.”
But the sun came up for many days
And the marks on your arms glowed
But the moonlight shadows never faded
They even got worse
And your eyes travelled farther away each day
I told you once that your eyes were in India
But your body was here
And you said you’d never seen anything as beautiful as India except for me
But when you realized your eyes were on a vacation
You burned me into your retinas
And told the irises, “Keep this one.”
