They hand me a ruler
and tell me to stop messing around
they give me a pen
and wait impatiently for me
to draw the lines
they expect to see
but I cannot create those boundaries
with ink that stains so permanently
for I would always long to know
what existed
on the other side of those lines
the ones drawn perfectly to scale

This is a poem I wrote about the process of planning for the future and making decisions that will impact my life permanently. It is based off of my favorite artist's song "No Such Thing," John Mayer.

Never give up on something you can't go a day without thinking about.

You did a great job of showing the frustration that all of us feel when we are expected to start mapping out our futures so early on! It fits perfectly with "No Such Thing" as well... I love John Mayer haha! I also liked how you demonstrated mapping out your future with pens and rulers; school supplies, great analogy! Keep up the good work!

I love your poem! Its very relatable and I always feel this way when I am asked about my future.  I am also a big fan of John Mayer and "No such thing"is my favorite song by him! Great work :)
