It was the best of times
It was the worst of times
It was opportunities to success
It was opportunities to failure
It was a fresh start
It was a loss of the familiar
It was a chance to speak your mind
It was a place where your mind sounded too foreign
It was a place to feel safe
It was a place to feel new, different fears
It was a new chance to a family
It was goodbye to the existing family
It was a job opportunity
It was survival in a run-down apartment
It was an adventure
It was uncertainty
It was the ability to prove yourself
It was the start from the bottom
It was a chance to have good times
It was a battle of many hard times
It was a new home
It was a melting pot
It was America

The author's comments:
I wrote this piece as a tribute to the past as well as a poem that applies to the present and the future. The piece is extremely relatable because America is a big melting pot and if one was not an immigrant themselves, someone in their ancestory was.
