Firecrackers on the Beach
I lay under the dark night sky speckled with brightly lit stars.
I hear the waves crashing on to the shore as I focus intently on the black canopy above me.
When will the firecrackers start?
I scoop up a handful of sand, and let it fall between my fingers.
Again, I stare up at the darkness.
When will the firecrackers start?
The air fills with impatient groans of little children, and the muttering of adults.
The seagulls are calling overhead,
"When will the firecrackers start?"
I grow anxious.
I feel excited.
When will the firecrackers start?
The waves crash, the seagulls call, the crabs run back and forth.
Everyone is growing uneasy.
When will the firecrackers start?
All of a sudden, I hear a loud "POP" as colors explode in the sky.
The waves calm, the seagulls hush, the crabs come to a halt.
Everything wants to see the firecrackers start.
The darkness is illuminated by an exploding ball of fire.
The reflection in the water is
something to admire.
Everyone is watching the firecrackers start.
Adults take out their cameras,
children closely pay attention.
No one wants to lose the memory of when the firecrackers start.
