Childhood
Everyone was taller than her
She tilted her head back and looked up at him
I want, I want
You will, you will
Ice cream and laughter
Questions and learning
The world is new and shiny
So is she—
Young and small and beautiful
Wonder in her eyes
Magic in her heart
The trees were budding
So was she—
It was spring

Adolescence
Everyone was cooler than her
She changed who she was on the outside
I won’t, I won’t
You will, you will
Drugs and alcohol
Boredom and anger
The world is big and brimming with possibilities
So is she—
Young and strong and beautiful
Questions in her eyes
Learning in her heart
The trees were green
So was she—
It was summer

Adulthood
Everyone was better than her
She traded her personal life for her career
Do this, do that
I will, I will
Resentment and lost hope
Sadness and regret
The world is unfair and cruel
So is she—
Strong and jaded and beautiful
Boredom in her eyes
Anger in her heart
The leaves were falling
So was she—
It was autumn

Old Age
Everyone was younger than her
She stayed trapped in her house
Do this, do that
Who will? Who will?
Fear and loathing
Wonder and magic
The world is old and soon to end
So is she—
Weak and wrinkly and beautiful
Sadness in her eyes
Regret in her heart
The leaves were gone
So was she—
It was winter

Although I'm only 16, I feel like I've already gone through some "life stages" that will never come back again...and I tried to imagine what will come later.
