Where the Darkness Leads
I hear your shallow breathing,
sketch, sketch, sketch,
your scratch of pencil to paper,
no words come out,
I try to talk to you,
scratch, scratch, scratch,
pencil moves back and forth against the pulp,
still, I hear silence,
Your breath is now gone,
the scratches have stopped,
I no longer hear you sketching,
you’ve shut me out completely,
I know where the darkness leads to,
I know not to follow,
but when you can’t go on any further,
who’s the light at the end of your tunnel?
I stare blankly,
thump, thump, thump,
my heart beat is the only sound,
I start to scare myself,
I try to make sense of this all,
scratch, scratch, scratch,
my own pencil to paper,
writing down my thoughts,
My heartbeat becomes silent,
no longer heard,
I’m running out of words,
how to put them from my mind, to paper,
I know where the darkness leads to,
I know not to follow,
but if I sit here and wait,
will you come back to me?
