I live in a conservative town,
I have conservative friends,
And most are Republicans.
Not that there is anything wrong with it,
It’s just...I’m far from that.

I live in a town where I see injustices.
Where people walk around like they own a building,
And luxury sedans were so last year.
But in the world my family and I dream of, people are equal,
And your car doesn’t rank you in a social pyramid.

I live in a town where certain beliefs are frowned upon.
“Atheist” is worse than the “F” word,
And a “No on Prop. 8” sign can bring you death stares.
But in the world my family and I dream of, the only thing that matters is your personality.
And all religions are respected.

Then, when I exit my town, I see a light,
A light that shines down equally on everyone.
And the sun’s golden rays block out all the hatred.
I see an equality of wealth spread among boys and girls,
And when the rain comes down, it drizzles a touch of humanity.

I live in a conservative town,
I have conservative friends,
And most people are Republicans.
Not that there is anything wrong with it,
It’s just...I’m far from that.
