“Nature is a haunted house--but Art--is a house that tries to be haunted.”
- Emily Dickinson

A new year, never seen before
Full of the newness of ending and beginning again.
Maybe this year someone will finally see that someone needs them,
And maybe this time everyone finds their way home.
Maybe this year.
Maybe this is the year that I uncover the hidden truth inside my core
Or maybe this year I’ll find that my truth is reflecting you all the while.
Maybe this time around I’ll find that there are no lies without a grain of truth
Maybe this time I’ll find there was no truth in any of the whole lie of my life.
I hope this year I learn who will be here with me forever
And who will never be here that I will love all the same,
And then finally I will realize that I will never last forever.
That said, perhaps I can find a moment that lasts eternity.
Maybe this year.
Maybe this is the year that you come back to me
Maybe this year I accept you never will.
Maybe this is the time that I bandage my wounds and move on to new battles,
Or maybe this is the time that I finally see my blood and realize that I’m bleeding.
I hope this year I learn how to fight all my fears,
While I gain them along the way,
And perhaps I find I am fearless all the same.
That said, I hope I will survive.
Maybe this year.
I ask for so much, and no one can ever help me.
I want to catch the fleeting dreams that I see in my rearview mirror as they fly by.
I want my buzzing head to find peace with my bleeding heart
And I want to find that somewhere
You are missing me with all the sorrow you have hidden inside.
But once eternity has passed within my tiny lifeline,
I hope that this year
Someone finds their way home.
