A Part of Me

i am obedient like a dog
always doing what i'm told
but when i try to speak
they tell me shush, go sit
i am always being told to entertain
sit, jump, beg, heel,stay
every night i watch the window
part of me longing to run
but the loyal dog can't leave
i just can't fight back
because how do you argue with someone who has your best interests at heart?
i know i should be happy
i have everything i need
but i guess
that even something domesticated
longs to be free
