Wandering the halls
As nurses rush by
Every room is full
With the ill and dying

I’ve seen families leave rooms in tears
Never thinking it would happen to mine
But on August 30th, 2010
All of those thoughts changed

Tears fell from my family’s eyes
Prayers poured from their lips
Every second felt like an eternity
Not knowing his fate

As I sit and wait I start to think
Of all the great moments
We had together
And that they might be the last

As he was brought past my family
I caught his eye and for the first time
I saw him shed a tear
I thought that would be the last time our eyes would meet

Not knowing was the hardest
Trying to stay positive
But in the back of my mind
I couldn’t help but think the worst

I felt like my whole world,
The man I looked up to the most,
My role model, my hero,
Might be taken from me

When the phone rang
My heart began to race,
That two minute phone call
Meant everything to me

When my mom told me that the surgery was a success
I wanted to fall to my knees
And begin to pray
But all I could manage to do was smile

Everything was okay
My hero overcame yet another obstacle
