Through the Eyes of the Silent

They watch it occur after day.
All the gunfire taunting and teasing on the innocent and shy.
It’s the leader of the group that leads this affair,
Leaving the others to watch in pained silence of what they know is wrong.
What can they do?
Laugh along…
Stand in funeral silence…
Or the unthinkable to any person in this position…
Stand up and do what is right?
This often doesn’t happen,
So we spend each day watching
Through the eyes of the silent.

I wrote this piece for a school assignment, it is my take on the role of bystanders in a bullying situation. I hope it helps you realize that there is no such thing as an innocent bystander.
