path.
path.
keep on walking,
one foot in front of the other,
going through the motions,
taking the path; the path given to you,
zigzagging down the path, your own way,
kicking leaves, picking flowers along the side,
looking up at the sky to tell you where to go,
but it doesn’t answer.
so you just keep walking
walking past a tree,
a tree that towers above you, looks down on you, makes you feel small,
but you keep walking
walking into a field
a field that you can’t focus in,
the sea of grain around you, touching you,
embracing you, but makes you feel small,
but you keep walking
walking faster now
walking purposely
walking in the correct direction
walking into a city
a city of life, of vibrancy, of purpose
and you stay there
deviate from the path so familiar
but the path is there
you aren’t following it.
it’s following you.
